lb/MMBtu to lb/hr Converter (Heat Input Basis)
Convert a heat-input emission factor in lb/MMBtu to lb/hr and tons/yr from firing rate, or from fuel use and heating value.
Burner, heater, and boiler factors are often in lb/MMBtu. Multiply by heat input to get a mass rate. Enter heat input directly, or fuel flow and heating value.

Questions engineers ask
HHV or LHV?
Use the basis the emission factor is written on; the factor's source document states it. Mixing bases shifts the result by the HHV/LHV ratio.
More converters: ppm to lb/hr, O2 correction, ppm to lb/MMBtu, g/hp-hr to lb/hr, lb/hr to tons/yr, ppm to mg/m³, Wet to dry basis.
How this works
Formula
- lb/hr = EF (lb/MMBtu) × heat input (MMBtu/hr)
- Heat input = fuel flow × heating value ÷ 10⁶
- tons/yr = lb/hr × hr/yr ÷ 2,000
Before you rely on the number
- Match the heating value basis (HHV or LHV) to the basis of the emission factor.
- For potential to emit, use maximum heat input and the hours your enforceable limits allow.
